Blackberry's Crash!

Blackberry's across the US and Canada suffered a major crash of their email service on Monday afternoon and were reduced to mere cellphones as Research In Motion Ltd had a data service interruption. The outage which lasted for about 4 hours from just after midday affected all users regardless of the carrier that they are with.

Voice and text messaging were not affected and were working as normal. Many business people along with politicians, celebrities and many 'mere mortals' were affected by the loss of service.

This is not the first time that Blackberrys have had problems. They had a major break in service in April 2007 due to poorly tested equipment. In 2006 users in Toronto also suffered a loss in service when a power pole was knocked down.

In other news, RIM have signed a deal with Vodaphone Group PLC. Vodaphone, which is the worlds largest mobile phone company (by revenue) announced that it will add Blackberrys to its preferred list of consumer platforms. This is seen as a move by RIM to expand its broader regular consumer base and reducing its reliance on the corporate users.

"Who's the Boss?"

10 ways to start taking control (time management, goal setting, record tracking)

At first glance, it would seem that positive thinking and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) have nothing to do with one another. But many of us with ADD develop negative thinking patterns because we become frustrated by our challenges and frequent feelings of being overwhelmed. This negative outlook then makes it even harder for us to manage those challenges and move forward.

Practicing positive thinking allows people with ADD to focus on our strengths and accomplishments, which increases happiness and motivation. This, in turn, allows us to spend more time making progress, and less time feeling down and stuck. The following tips provide practical suggestions that you can use to help you shift into more positive thinking patterns:

1. Take Good Care of Yourself
It's much easier to be positive when you are eating well, exercising, and getting enough rest.

2. Remind Yourself of the Things You Are Grateful For
Stresses and challenges don't seem quite as bad when you are constantly reminding yourself of the things that are right in life. Taking just 60 seconds a day to stop and appreciate the good things will make a huge difference.

3. Look for the Proof Instead of Making Assumptions
A fear of not being liked or accepted sometimes leads us to assume that we know what others are thinking, but our fears are usually not reality. If you have a fear that a friend or family member's bad mood is due to something you did, or that your co-workers are secretly gossiping about you when you turn your back, speak up and ask them. Don't waste time worrying that you did something wrong unless you have proof that there is something to worry about.

4. Refrain from Using Absolutes
Have you ever told a partner "You're ALWAYS late!" or complained to a friend "You NEVER call me!"? Thinking and speaking in absolutes like 'always' and 'never' makes the situation seem worse than it is, and programs your brain into believing that certain people are incapable of delivering.

5. Detach From Negative Thoughts
Your thoughts can't hold any power over you if you don't judge them. If you notice yourself having a negative thought, detach from it, witness it, and don't follow it.

6. Squash the "ANTs"
In his book "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life," Dr. Daniel Amen talks about "ANTs" - Automatic Negative Thoughts. These are the bad thoughts that are usually reactionary, like "Those people are laughing, they must be talking about me," or "The boss wants to see me? It must be bad!" When you notice these thoughts, realize that they are nothing more than ANTs and squash them!

7. Practice Lovin', Touchin' & Squeezin' (Your Friends and Family)
You don't have to be an expert to know the benefits of a good hug. Positive physical contact with friends, loved ones, and even pets, is an instant pick-me-up. One research study on this subject had a waitress touch some of her customers on the arm as she handed them their checks. She received higher tips from these customers than from the ones she didn't touch!

8. Increase Your Social Activity
By increasing social activity, you decrease loneliness. Surround yourself with healthy, happy people, and their positive energy will affect you in a positive way!

9. Volunteer for an Organization, or Help another Person
Everyone feels good after helping. You can volunteer your time, your money, or your resources. The more positive energy you put out into the world, the more you will receive in return.

10. Use Pattern Interrupts to Combat Rumination
If you find yourself ruminating, a great way to stop it is to interrupt the pattern and force yourself to do something completely different. Rumination is like hyper-focus on something negative. It's never productive, because it's not rational or solution-oriented, it's just excessive worry. Try changing your physical environment - go for a walk or sit outside. You could also call a friend, pick up a book, or turn on some music.

When it comes to the corporate world, protocol is pretty much the religion. To know the things needed to do are the basics of productivity, but interaction and having a steady mind makes up the entire thing to true productivity. There are those who seem to work well even under pressure, but they're uncommon ones and we are human and imperfect. To get these little things like stress under our skins won't solve our problems. Sometimes it takes a bit of courage to admit that we're turning out to be workaholics than tell ourselves that we're not doing our best.

To Your Success

Net Addresses Running Out?

The current method of web addresses is running out of numbers.

As we all know the web has exploded in recent years with emerging countries such as China and India increasing vastly the world wide demand for web addresses.

The current addressing scheme, known as version 4 of the Internet Protocol is capable of handling up to about 4.2 Billion addresses and only about 14% of these are still available.

It is estimated that, at the current rate of growth, the Internet could run out of addresses by 2010 or 2011 which would be a serious problem for people seeking an address after this date.

However, some 10 years ago, this problem was recognized and a new protocol format known as IPv6 was devised. This new protocol would see the end of any worry about web addresses for decades to come, since it has the capability of handling something like 340 trillion, trillion, trillion addresses. (The mind boggles)

On Monday 11th February,2008. the master address books for the Internet are being updated to include records prepared in the new format IPv6.

Today, Monday 4th February, 2008 the master servers for the net will have a small number of records in the new IPv6 added to them. So for the first time in the history of the net computers using the IPv6 will be able to find each other without using the IPv4 technology.

There will be a long period of time there will be no or little effect on consumers but eventually the less modern computers, servers and routers will have to be updated.  Internet Providers have not yet implemented the service since no-one is yet asking for it and secondly there will be some expense involved.

Rest assured however, that in years to come, you will still be able to communicate with your refrigerator or microwave as you drive home in your web enabled car!

Happy computing!

New Tool - Windows Live Writer

I don't know how long this has been available, but I just found it the other day and I think it is great.

I have all my blogs (two of them) loaded into it and I can post to either of them right from my desktop with just a couple of clicks.

I am hoping that I will now be able to post more often to both of my blogs instead of the very sporadic way that I have in the past.

Having the icon on my desktop is a visual reminder that I should post, and believe me I need all the help I can get.

Oh, Yes, I nearly forgot it is FREE. Exactly my sort of price.

Now I know that there are all sorts of things out there for amateur bloggers like me including auto posters but this works beautiful for me.

Another tool that I got from Windows Live is the Mail program, again this makes life so much easier for me. I have a number of  email accounts and it used to be a bit of a chore to log into each one then log out again.

Now I can see them all on one screen, I don't need to log into an account only to find that there was no mail and I had wasted my time. I can see at a glance which accounts have mail and which don't. I can go directly to my various inboxes - read, edit save or delete any email message. Absolutely wonderful.

I am not normally a big fan of Windows but these two free programs I love.

Causes of Yeast Infection

Cause of Yeast Infection
The cause of yeast infection is linked directly to an imbalance of the fungus Candida albicans. To help prevent and cure this though, the first thing that should be known is, what is the cause of yeast infection. Well, to begin with it should be stated that there is no one cause of yeast infection, there are many and they run the gamut from simple stress in life to hormonal changes to transference through sexual intercourse. And since there is no actual one cause of yeast infection that can be pinpointed and isolated to avoid getting a yeast infection, it is best if you can be aware of most of them.

One of cause of yeast infection is if you take antibiotics. Another cause of yeast infection occurs due to stress. This same hormonal change is a prime factor in the cause of yeast infection of pregnant or lactating women, and women who are menopausal. For men, the most common cause of yeast infection is through sexual intercourse with a woman affected with a yeast infection.

Other factors that can be a major cause of yeast infection in women include the use of douches, scented feminine hygiene products, feminine sprays, and the regular use of spermicides. Another cause of yeast infection that is largely overlooked is clothing. Close fitting clothes keep air from circulating around the affected areas and create the warm, moist environment that yeast needs to grow. There is no doubting the fact that preventing yeast infection is much better than curing it, which means one should know what the cause of yeast infection is and act in an appropriate manner to avoid the disease from affecting one, rather than not pay enough attention and then run about looking for ways to treat the disease.

If it is vaginal yeast infection that one is concerned about, the cause of yeast infection is certainly attributable to Candida Albicans which is a nasty organism that live in the vagina and if it is allowed to multiply will cause yeast infection in the vagina. Even use of condoms while having sexual intercourse can result in vaginal yeast infection. Even if one does try and reduces yeast products in one’s diet, there is still no clinching evidence to suggest that doing so will prevent yeast infection. Yet another cause of yeast infection is not having proper personal hygiene, the presence of moisture is also what the microorganisms need to thrive in and thus a woman having menstrual periods would be more likely to suffer from yeast infection.

Use of some agents that are especially irritating such as bubble baths, vaginal douches. In addition, certain soaps that are of harsh nature and even toilet paper that has been perfumed, some detergents that are used to wash undergarments can also become a cause of yeast infection. Also, washing of the vaginal area more than is necessary and that with tap water will make for another cause of yeast infection. Thus, there is a pressing need to identify the basic cause of yeast infection so as to make it considerably easier to prevent and also cure the disease from developing further.

The most common cause of yeast infection is antibiotics and their overuse. The most common foods that can be a cause of yeast infections in America are beef and dairy. Other foods that can be a cause of yeast infections are grain foods, peanuts, corn, and red apples, which will actually grow mold on them as they grow. If I were to find one word that would encompass all of these terms – yeast, Candida Albicans, fungus, parasites, mushrooms, overgrowth – the cause of yeast infection would be TOXINS. Knowing the cause of yeast infection helps us understand why our body may exibit symptoms of diseases. Effective yeast infection prevention begins with knowing what can cause of yeast infection.

Candida Yeast Infection Symptoms

Candida Yeast Infection Symptoms
The general candida yeast infection symptoms are familiar to many people. As with many other health conditions, candida yeast infection symptoms are a clue to imbalances in your body that trigger many off-shoot conditions that form a vicious cycle where weight gain is usually one of the unfortunate results.

In particular, the candida yeast infection symptoms that affect weight gain the most are food cravings and digestive problems. If you're young, not sexually active, and you've never experienced candida yeast infection symptoms, you may not realize that you have, in fact, contracted this common and pesky condition. Doctors can administer tests for Candida, but most practitioners administer a questionnaire in order to determine if a person has the common candida yeast infection symptoms.

So what are the most common candida yeast infection symptoms. The candida yeast infection symptoms include itching and burning of the outer vaginal area, redness and inflammation of the labia, and a heavy, odorous vaginal discharge. The most common candida yeast infection symptoms are: fatigue, food intolerances, poor memory, feeling "spaced out", mental fogginess lack of mental alertness, confusion digestion problems (constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, bloating), food cravings (especially for sweets, refined carbohydrates or alcohol), erratic vision or spots before the eyes, lack of sexual desire, allergies (rashes and hives), headaches, mood swings, dry mouth or throat, heartburn, nasal congestion, bad breath, thrush (oral or vaginal), vaginal discharge / irritation or pain, persistent cystitis, vaginitis or prostatitis to name but a few.

Some of the vaginal candida yeast infection symptoms include: Abnormal vaginal discharge which can range from a slightly watery, white discharge to a thick, white, chunky discharge (like cottage cheese); Vaginal and labial itching and burning; Redness of the vulvar skin; Pain with intercourse; and sometimes discomfort on urination.

There are different ways to attack candida yeast infection symptoms, but my recommendation is to try the natural method of diet and supplementation. No matter which method you try, do it under the care and supervision of a qualified practitioner, particularly since the practitioner can adjust supplement doses to counteract die-off candida yeast infection symptoms which often occur during the program as Candida is destroyed.

You may be able to ignore the candida yeast infection symptoms and hope it goes away on its own, but you will never ignore a urinary tract infection caused by the yeast infection. Fortunately, while you're being treated for the urinary tract infection your physician will also treat the underlying candida yeast infection symptoms that caused this mess to begin with. Finally, to correctly identify candida yeast infection symptoms, your gynecologist will need a urine and blood sample to rule out more serious, even life-threatening conditions like cancer, chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomonas, genital herpes, genital warts, and syphilis.

Yeast
We do not represent any yeast infection medication, neither do we advocate any specific yeast infection treatment process. A yeast infection is an irritation of mucous membranes of the body, such as the vagina, intestines, skin or mouth. If it happens at the mouth area, it will be called oral yeast infection. If it happens on the skin, it will be called skin yeast infection.

Regardless of where it happens, the primary cause of yeast infection is still the same. It can also be found in a man (male yeast infection), even an infant (baby yeast infection). If you have recurring Candida yeast infections and are familiar with the very earliest signs, including itching that is not directly located in the genital region, don't wait for the symptoms to get worse. If you have only been using over-the-counter medications and find the Candida yeast infections seem to come back relatively often, ask your physician about an oral medication.

If you have several Candida yeast infections over the course of many months, you may qualify for a maintenance dose of the oral prescription. Candida Albicans or Candida for short is the name given to yeast that lives in the bodies of each and every one of us. These yeasts are generally found in the intestinal tract and the vaginal regions. Under normal conditions, our body is easily able to cope with the presence of these yeasts and our natural defence system and beneficial bacteria control the spread of yeasts.

A Yeast Infection Looks Like

A Yeast Infection Looks Like

A yeast infection looks like a patch of flat red rashes that may eventually produce pus. We've probably all heard the term a yeast infection and many of us have probably suffered from the burning and itching that are indicative symptoms of this condition. But the best, most definitive way to know what a yeast infection looks like is to view a sample of the suspected discharge under a microscope.

What a yeast infection looks like depends on which area of the body it is occurring in. In the case of a vaginal infection, a yeast infection looks like a red area which may swell a bit. If the infection occurs in the oral cavity, a yeast infection looks like a whitish patch of milk curd on top of a red patch of skin. If a yeast infection looks like this already, it is best to bring the patient to the doctor because this makes swallowing of food and drinks very painful. In the webs between the fingers and toes, a yeast infection looks like a dry patch of red skin that is very itchy. If you are wondering what a yeast infection looks like, talk to your doctor about a diagnosis and potential treatment plan.

Yeast
Yeast infections can be uncomfortable, inconvenient, and even embarrassing. Yeast tends to grow out of control when your body’s pH balance is disrupted or if certain bacteria that normally keep yeast levels to a minimum are destroyed due to an external influence. Yeasts can also grow out of control after being overfed sugars by people who have excessively sugary diets.
A yeast infection, or Candidiasis, can be caused by a number of factors. Most causes involve an imbalance in the delicate eco-system of the natural yeasts, bacteria and acidity levels that are present on your skin or in your vagina.

There are some key signs to look for which indicate you might have a yeast infection.

Vaginal dryness:

If your vagina is particularly dry, it is possible that a yeast infection is preventing your body's natural moisturizers and lubricants from keeping it moist, thereby causing excessive dryness.

Painful intercourse:

If sexual intercourse has become more painful lately, this could be a sign of a yeast infection.

Burning during urination:

A burning sensation during urination is a very common symptom of yeast infections.
If you are experiencing one or more of these symptoms, you could have a yeast infection.

The mounting childhood metabolic syndrome and obesity crises pose serious threats to our nation’s health, and threaten to decrease life expectancy for future generations of Americans for the first time in 100 years; the time for action is now.
We understand that eating a nutritious diet and maintaining good health can be a difficult challenge, especially for children bombarded with advertisements for sugary cereals and snacks, and busy parents struggling to cook three healthy meals every day. It must, however, be done.
